You’re a health-conscious consumer, and you make sure you get plenty of “whole grains” in your diet, right?
Not so fast, Captain Health! Take a look at what those “whole grain” labels on your food really mean:
- “Made with whole grain” means the food contains some whole grain, with the emphasis on “some.”
- “Good source of whole grain” means that the food may contain as little as 15% whole grain.
- “Whole grain” means that at least 51% of the flour is whole grain. Let’s see, doesn’t that mean that up to 49% may not be whole grain?
- “100% whole grain” means that no refined flour is used. Now we are getting somewhere!
Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware)!
